IS hideout linked to military school attack discovered

KABUL: Intelligence operatives detected and seized “a center of Daesh” with link to the bloody attack on the Afghan National Army’s 111th military corps unit in Kabul, an official claimed on Tuesday.

A source in the National Directorate of Security (NDS) told Pajhwok Afghan News their personnel conducted a special operation in Qala-i-Wahid area falling in the jurisdiction of the 5th police district of Kabul city.

The source said an IS coordination and planning center which was also used for storing weapons and ammunition were seized during the operation.

Abdullah, a resident of the area, said National Directorate of Security personnel came to the area in the morning and launched a house to house search. However, he did not go into details.

The 111th military corps unit was attacked by four Daesh suicide attackers in Gargha locality on Monday at around 5:00am.

The gun-battle ended after eleven security officials and the four bombers were killed. On the assailant was arrested. At least 16 security personnel were wounded.

Daesh has claimed responsibility for the attack, the third major attack in the capital in less than 10 days, including a devastating suicide bombing at a security checkpoint killing more than 100 people on Saturday.
