Hospital staff allegedly rape, kill woman patient in Karachi

F.P. Report

KARACHI: A 26-year-old woman patient was allegedly raped and killed by four medical officials, including a doctor, at a government hospital in Karachi, on Monday.

According to local news channel reports, the woman patient identified as Asmat Junejo had come seeking help for toothache, and the government hospital Korangi No. 5. There, however, a doctor, with the help of three other officers, drugged, subdued, and raped her, then poisoned her.

The alleged primary suspect has not been arrested yet and declared absconding, whereas three of his accomplices identified as Amir, Shahzaib, and Wali Muhammad were detained and presented in a court of the Judicial Magistrate (District East). They were subsequently sent to jail on judicial remand.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, on the other hand, took notice of the incident and was reportedly upset with the police. He asked: “Tell me which elements are involved in the rape and murder of the patient?”

Shah, who said “the death of a patient suffering from toothache is painful for me”, ordered the police to register a first information report (FIR) of the alleged rape and murder of Asmat Junejo, start an investigation, and report the progress to him.
