KARACHI: The law enforcement authorities in Karachi took action against the encroachments inside Sindh Madressatul Islam University where they demolished several homes and shops.
The land mafia of Sindh’s provincial capital had allegedly grabbed two acres of land inside the university. Upon reports, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah ordered the KMC’s anti-encroachment task force to hold an operation against the illegal activity.
During the operation, 39 shops, seven warehouse and numerous shops were demolished. The task force faced difficulty when people protested against the operation and lay down before the heavy machinery.
Police contingents were also called at the location which dispersed the protesters. 18 people were taken into custody. The two acre land of the government was freed from the occupation.
KMC spokesperson told that the encroachments continued in the Sindh Madressatul Islam University for several years. They were provided one-week notice before the operation.
