How are Afghan families dealing with the lockdown?

KABUL: Four days have passed since the Afghan capital Kabul was put on lockdown to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. But there are families in the city which have created special projects and ways of working at home during the quarantine.

Mohammad Agha Zaki is a researcher in the field of cinema. He obtained his masters degree a month ago. He believes that by implementing good plan the people will be able to do their jobs using the internet from their homes.

The coronavirus pandemic has also led to the closure of educational institutions and schools in various countries, including Afghanistan.

“Doing study and research are not something divided or abstracted from our lives. We can find the resources we need from libraries and other similar places that are available to us, and we continue studying at home and pursue our work,” said Mohammad Agha Zaki.

“Undoubtedly there are problems, but we have prepared our own timetable amidst school closures and we can move with our own plan so that our children can study while at home. We can also address the projects around the house and continue our political duties,” said Hekmatullah Shahbaz, a university professor in Kabul.

Experts working in the field of children’s rights say that from now on the families and the government need to plan for life after the coronavirus to help the children return to normal life without any hesitation.

“If a child is in the early stages of life or in its infancy, we need to provide him with the suitable circumstances for language skills, if a child is in the second stage of life, we need to provide him the applicable situation for playing, and if he is in the third stage of life and wants to enter into the society, we need to develop the creativity in him,” said Manizha Ramizi, a researcher in the field of child development.

However, reaching out to families whose children are working outside the home is more serious, and there is a need that the government support these children financially.(TOLOnews)
