Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) commenced work on a garden in Kabul city to honor child victims of war in Afghanistan.

The AIHRC planted approximately 120 trees in the garden, which is located at the front of the commission. Each tree represents a child victim.

Shahrzad Akbar, the head of the AIHRC, urged the warring sides to respect human rights and values for lasting peace in Afghanisan.

“Peace should be based on a laws and principles, otherwise it will be a division of power. In fact, it is not peace,” said Akbar.

Naeem Nazari, deputy head of the AIHRC, accused the warring sides of being careless, and said that most victims are children.

“We had 2738 children that were killed and wounded in the last 1398 year (Persian year),” said Nazari.

The AIHRC urged the government to work for the national interest rather than personal interests in peace talks with the Taliban.

Abdul Saboor, a father, spoke of his experience:

“I have seen my daughter wounded, and my son was also wounded,” said Abdul Saboor.

Gul Chehra, another victim of war, said that she has lost her four siblings in clashes between the Taliban and government, and also lost five members of her family, including her son.

“I want nothing, I only want peace. Stop the war, we have suffered a lot of sorrow,” said Gul Chehra. (TOLOnews)
