Humayun Saeed defends depiction of relationship between teacher, student amid uproar

(Web Desk) : The drama ‘Main Manto Nahi Hoon’ is facing criticism from viewers for portraying a romantic relationship between a teacher and a student which prompted actor Humayun Saeed to clarify that this reflects a societal reality that cannot be ignored.

The popular drama serial *Main Manto Nahi Hoon is currently capturing significant viewer attention. All characters in the drama are prominent, and each episode sparks considerable discussion on social media.

While the drama is receiving praise, it is also facing substantial criticism for depicting a romantic relationship between a teacher and a student, particularly due to the age difference between the characters Manto and Mahmal, which has not been well-received by some viewers.

Recently, Humayun Saeed in the drama gave an interview alongside co-actor Azan Sami Khan, where he addressed the portrayal of the teacher-student romantic relationship.

Humayun Saeed stated that such relationships happen in real life, so why is there criticism for showing it in a drama?

He explained that in real life, there are instances where a teacher and student end up getting married. He added that the story has not yet fully clarified the future of their relationship, yet viewers have already begun criticizing it.

He further elaborated that Mahmal lives in a violent environment filled with conflict and fighting. In such a setting, she meets someone who is gentle-natured and even cooks his own meals, which leads her to feel drawn to her teacher’s personality because she cannot believe such a person exists.

According to the actor, the drama could have depicted a full-fledged romantic relationship from the start, but it has not done so. Currently, it only shows a crush, while the teacher considers Mahmal merely a favorite student.
