I needed rest ahead of 2019 World Cup: Hasan Ali

KARACHI (Monitoring Desk): Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali has backed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee’s decision to rest him for the ODI series against Australia, ahead of the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.

While talking in an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Ali said that he has been playing continuous cricket for the past six months which is why this break from cricket will help him recover, both mentally and physically.

“I have been playing continuously for the past six months, in all three formats, which is why it was important for me to get some rest,” said Ali. “It will also help me mentally as one can get worn out pretty quickly.”

The right-arm pacer was also optimistic about his team’s chances, ahead of the mega event. “We have ample experience of playing in England and that will prove beneficial at the World Cup,” he said. “We also have a series there before the mega event, so we will hopefully be prepared adequately for the mega event.”

The 24-year-old is enjoying his return to form, after a mediocre series against South Africa, as he became the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“I’m enjoying my bowling and happy to perform well on the field for my side,” he said. “My favourite moment of the HBL PSL4 was the spell against Islamabad United in eliminator two , as it was a do or die match.”

He added: “You can’t perform in the same manner for 12 months on the go. The series in South Africa was not a good one but I worked hard and regained my form.” He also lauded bowling coach Azhar Mahmood’s efforts in making him a better bowler. “Azhar bhai played a major role in improving my bowling and giving me confidence,” he said. “I worked with him on my wrist position and other related stuff in order to get back to my best.”
