Identifying corrupt elements should be consider national responsibility: DG NAB

ISLAMABAD: Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Muhammad Altaf Bawany has said that identifying corrupt elements should be considered as national responsibility and the new generation must play its role in eradication of corruption.

Addressing a seminar regarding role of NAB in eradication of corruption, held at Air University Islamabad on Wednesday, Altaf Bawany said that the NAB recovered 299 billion rupees plundered money in last 19 years and over 3500 NAB references were filed during this period.

He said that the corruption was major hurdle in way of the development of country and youth should play effective role to change the corrupt mindset.

Responding to a question, the Director General NAB said that Pakistan doesn’t lacks honourable people who care for national resources and interests as well.

Altaf Bawany while advising the new generation of keeping them secure of corrupt practices said that youth can play an effective role for eradication of corruption from country.

He apprised the students that the NAB was constituted in 1999 and later the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) declared it indispensable for the country and public representatives in the Parliament also gave approval if NAB laws.

The DG NAB said that the Bureau was taking all possible steps to ensure transparency in the cases.

Referring to the Section 9, 10, 12 & 15, he said that in Pakistan the corruption elements were awarded 10 to 14 years imprisonment while in China, those who found involved corrupt practices were awarded death sentence.

The DG NAB said that Islam also stresses transparency in affairs for stability in the society.

Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Air University, Air Commodore Muhammad Saleem declared corruption as international ulcer and stressed need of its eradication.

A souvenir was presented to the DG NAB Muhammad Altaf at end of the ceremony.
