IEA should take steps for recognition: Gailani

KABUL (Tolo News): Fatima Gailani, a member of the negotiating team of the former government, says that the Islamic Emirate should take practical steps and fulfill its commitments to be recognized by the international community. Gailani made the remarks in an interview with Turkey’s TRT World news channel.
“The international community should look into the eye of every single Afghan. If the people of Afghanistan will recognize this government as the Afghan government, as their own government, then the world should recognize it,” she said. Raising her concerns about the current situation in the country, Gailani said real peace and security have not been maintained in the country. “I see men and women, young and old, they repeat: no war again. They repeat: I want to be part of the future. They want exactly what you want: a peaceful country, a prosperous country, access to education, access to health and facilities,” she added.
Meanwhile, the EU special envoy for Afghanistan Tomas Niklasson, who recently paid a visit to Kabul, said that all Afghans, men and women, should have a voice in the government. “All Afghan men and women must have a voice to decide who should govern and what policies should be implemented. This is a key to stability and would allow inclusive governance by acceptance rather than ruling by force. Dialogue needs to start, even locally, and including women,” he said on Twitter. The Islamic Emirate, however, says the current caretaker government is inclusive and it represents all the people and regions of Afghanistan.
“The Islamic Emirate represents the whole country and is being further strengthened and completed,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman of the Islamic Emirate. Seven months after the current government, although several countries have reopened their embassies and diplomatic missions in Kabul, no country has recognized the Islamic Emirate.
