IEA urges Uzbekistan to maintain electricity balance agreed upon

KABUL (Agencies): The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Sher Mohammad Abbas, discussed imported power shortage with his Uzbek counterpart Ismatilla Ergashev in a telephone conversation on Saturday.
Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Stanikzai told the special representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan that due to the decrease in the imported electricity of Uzbekistan, problems have arisen in some provinces of the country, including the capital city of Kabul.
Mr. Stanikzai asked the Uzbek side to bring the level of imported electricity to the level agreed upon between the two countries.
For his part, Mr. Ergashev acknowledged the problem, saying that he talked to the Ministry of Electricity of Uzbekistan on the matter, adding that the lack of electricity and some technical problems in the arrival of cold winter in Uzbekistan the main reason for power shorts.
Mr. Ergashev said that on their efforts, the level of electricity transmission has increased, saying that they strive to increase the level of electricity to Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the country’s residents complain about power shortages for at least a week, some residents raised vices on social media saying that they get a few hours of electricity 24 hours in a day.
