IHC bars NA body’s notice to Saqib Nisar’s son in audio leaks case

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Suspending the notice issued by a special committee of the National Assembly (NA) to Najam Saqib, son of former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar in connection with investigation into audio leaks, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday barred the committee from taking action against ex-CJP’s son.

Najam had challenged the issuance of notice to him in the IHC.

Asking the federal government as to who recorded audios, Justice Babar Sattar asked it to submit its reply on June 19.

Latif Khosa, counsel for Najam, said that same rules which applied to ordinary committees, would apply to the special committee.

Justice Babar asked him to make concerned ministry party to the case. “Although no ministry has anything to do with the case, still we will comply with your instructions,” Khosa told the judge, and added, “The crux of my client’s petition is that neither the NA nor its speaker are authorized to look into a private matter.”

He clarified that the matter pending in the Supreme Court had not been challenged. “The audio was between two private persons,” the counsel said, adding, “And the parliament has no authority to probe a private matter.”
