IHC dismisses Mazari’s petition challenging section 124-A

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday dismissed the petition filed by former human rights minister and PTI leader Dr Shireen Mazari challenging Section 124-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah on Saturday heard the petition and threw it out declaring it non-maintainable. “Trust Parliament to strengthen it,” he said.

PTI leader Dr Mazari petitioned the court to declare the Section 124-A of PPC under which sedition cases are filed null and void.

During yesterday’s hearing, Chief Justice Minallah remarked that legislation was parliament’s prerogative and the court could not intervene in it.
