F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday has conducted hearing on a bail plea filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal in Narowal Sports City case.

During the proceedings, Chief Justice of IHC Athar Minallah asked why Ahsan Iqbal was arrested if any charge against him was not proved.

The additional prosecutor general told the court that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal had ordered to detain the PML-N leader due to authentic evidence against him.

The CJ further asked about the inclusion of Ahsan Iqbal’s name in Exit Control List (ECL) over which, the anti-corruption watchdog told that his name is not present in the list.

On December 23, NAB had arrested Ahsan Iqbal over his involvement in embezzlement of Narowal Sports City project funds.

The anti-graft watchdog body alleged that Iqbal had illegally initiated a project of Rs 3 billion in Narowal, causing a loss worth billions to the national exchequer.

NAB claimed to have received a complaint that the Narowal Sports City was constructed at a cost of approximately Rs6 billion, which was a violation of rules.
