F.P. Report
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court Thursday expressed strong displeasure over the federal government’s failure to submit a report regarding Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release, health, and repatriation.
During the hearing, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan questioned why the reasons for Pakistan’s refusal to assist in Dr. Siddiqui’s U.S. court proceedings were not submitted. He warned that if the report is not presented in his court, he may summon the entire federal cabinet.
“This court can initiate contempt proceedings not only against the cabinet but also the Prime Minister,” the judge remarked. He granted three days to the government to file the report.
Additional Attorney General requested five working days to file the report, which the court accepted, granting time until next week.
A petition regarding a meeting between Dr. Aafia’s sister, Fauzia Siddiqui, and the Prime Minister was also mentioned. In response, Justice Ejaz questioned the purpose of such a meeting, asking, “What would Fauzia Siddiqui accomplish by meeting the Prime Minister?”
The court adjourned the hearing until July 21.
