IJT asks varsities to reverse decision regarding online classes

PESHAWAR: The Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT), University Campus, has voiced strong criticism over the start of online classes in the universities amidst coronavirus pandemic and asked the varsities’ administrations to revisit the decision and start regular classes after the vacations.

The IJT also expressed resentment over the demand of semesters fees by the varsities’ administrations and instead asked the administrations to waive off the tuition fee of all the students enrolled in the semester programs.

In a news statement issued here, IJT’s Campus Nazim Shafiq Ur Rehman said that there was a growing discontent among the students regarding the decision of starting online classes as majority of the students, who were studying in the universities, belong to far flung areas and had no access to the internet and other facilities.

He said that before the commencement of online classes, it was the responsibility of the incumbent government to ensure provision of internet facility in the remote tribal areas.

He added further that the decision would put extra financial burden on the parents in terms of buying android mobiles and expensive internet packages for the students.

He urged the government and varsities’ administrations to arrange internet facilities for the tribal students so that they can keep up with the current educational trends.

He also demanded the federal and provincial governments to waive off the tuition fee of all the students and announce financial packages for the crises-hit universities
