IMF team to visit Pakistan from Monday

ISLAMABAD: The spokesperson of the Finance Ministry on Friday said the team of International Monetary Fund (IMF) will arrive in Pakistan on April 29 to hold talks on a bailout package.

In a statement, the spokesperson said technical matters of the package would be discussed with the visiting team next week.

A comprehensive dialogue has also been held with the IMF recently on economic framework, the ministry’s spokesperson said.

Dr Khaqan Najeeb said relevant departments were completing their preparations for talks with the IMF. The discussion on economic reforms and overhauling of energy sector will also be held.

The IMF team will also be briefed on Ehsas Programme initiated by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has also said the government wants to ensure complete transparency in all programmes, including Bait-ul-Maal so that the element of discretion could be eliminated.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan met International Monetary Fund (IMF) Director Christine Lagarde on the sidelines of the second Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, China.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance, Hafeez Shaikh, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were in attendance during the all important meeting between the PM and IMF chief.

Pakistan is expecting $6billion bailout package from the IMF.
