Imran says don’t exploit facts in DI Khan case

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has accused his political opponents of misrepresenting facts and exploiting the DI Khan girl case for political gains.

He took to Twitter on Saturday to vent his anger over the ‘misleading’ coverage of the issue and criticism hurled at him and his party in failing to bring the culprits to book.

According to the police, the 16-year-old girl’s brother had a premarital affair with a woman. After learning about it, the village’s council ruled that the woman’s family could retaliate by disrespecting his sister.

On the morning of October 27, when the girl was fetching water, a group of men accosted and stripped her, dragging along the ground before making her walk around naked for an hour. The girl ran and sought refuge in the house of a religious leader.

The PTI chief said that his political opponents, aided by some in media, were seeking to misrepresent facts for their own ‘desperate political ambitions’.

“K-P police is doing an excellent job in bringing perpetrators to justice & there has been no pol pressure on K-P police nor will K-P police/PTI tolerate it,” he added.

PTI MNA Dawar Khan Kundi had demanded the removal of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for allegedly providing ‘logistic and physical support to the criminals’ involved in the incident.

The PTI later issued a show cause notice to Kundi after receiving complaints of ‘violating party discipline’ against him.

Kundi had said that he personally investigated the matter and found the PTI minister responsible for harbouring the accused, and this had brought shame to the party. He had also taken up the issue in Parliament.
