KABUL: India on Thursday handed over two Mi-35 gunship helicopters to the Afghan Air Force as efforts are underway to further bolster the capabilities of the Afghan armed forces in the fight against terrorism.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a statement said the two gunship helicopters were handed over to the Ministry of Defense during a ceremony which was organized earlier today.
The statement further added that the Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar, acting Minister of Defense Asadullah Khalid, Air Force Commander Gen. Abdul FahimRamin, and some other senior defense officials had participated in the ceremony.
According to Ministry of Defense, the two helicopters have been purchased from Belarus with the financial support of the government India. Two more Mi-35 gunships will be handed over to the Afghan Air Force in the near future, the Ministry of Defense added.(Khaama Press)
