Info Minister hands over Rs. 50m grant in aid cheque for KPC

KARACHI: Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on behalf of Sindh government handed over a cheque of an annual grant amounting to Rs 50 million for Karachi Press Club.

Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jameeli and General Secretary Rizwan Bhatti received the Cheque from the provincial minister. Secretary Information Abdul Rasheed Solangi, Director (Admin) Information Muhammad Yousuf Kabooro were also present on this occasion. While talking, Mr. Memon said that annual grant in aid would enable them to continue the welfare of club members and improve the facilities in the club.He held out assurance for allotment of plots to the remaining members of the press club.

The provincial minister further said that Pakistan People’s Party has always taken practical measures for the welfare of journalists.

The Sindh Cabinet approved the Commission for the Protection of Journalists and Media Practitioners in its meeting held on Wednesday. After which Sindh has become the only province in the country, that has formed a commission for the protection of journalists.

He said that Justice retired Rashid A. Rizvi, a person with excellent reputation, has been appointed as the chairman of the commission.He said that the commission will provide protection to journalists and media workers. The provincial minister further said that the Sindh government of Pakistan People’s Party is endeavouring to improve the infrastructure of the city of Karachi. Mega development projects had been completed in transport, local government, health and education sectors and work on several projects is in progress.

He added that in the public transport sector, People’s Bus Service, Orange Line, Electric Bus Service have been started, BRT Red Line project will be completed in next two years, while work on Yellow Line will be launched very soon. .
