Investments slump over political uncertainty
KABUL: Representatives of Afghanistan’s private sector said that investments in the country have scientifically declined over the past few months due to the political uncertainty.
They said that the business community and investors have lost their trust in the situation in the country.
They called on the government to expedite efforts to attract more investment and leverage economic activities.
Investors have said that business activities and investments have declined unprecedently in Afghanistan during the past nine months of talks between the US and the Taliban in Doha.
“During this period [in the last nine months], no investment has been done. Although there were some commitments, all the things have stopped. This situation has to change,” said AtiqullahNusrat, CEO of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
“The government needs to provide security and resolve the issues facing the private sector so that the way is paved for investment,” said Sakhi Ahmad Paiman, an investor from Kabul.
This comes as US President Donald Trump called off negotiations between the United States and the Taliban.(TOLOnews)
