TEHRAN (Khaama Press): Iranian media has revealed the arrest of a group of armed drug smugglers who crossed into Iran from Afghanistan. The arrest operation also led to the confiscation of weapons.
The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported on Wednesday that these individuals were apprehended as part of a military operation.
During the operation, authorities uncovered a property used to store both drugs and weapons near Kerman.
The seized contraband included a significant quantity of drugs, comprising 461 kilograms of opium, 106 kilograms of cannabis, and 57 kilograms of Shesha.
Additionally, the security forces seized a cache of weaponry, which included a 14.5mm cannon, an RPG (Rocket-Propelled Grenade), two RPG rockets, and a total of 936 shells.
The Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan has raised concerns about security and regional stability in the area. Despite having diplomatic relations between Iran and the Taliban administration, there have been border clashes and water rights issues.
While Iran maintains diplomatic ties with the Taliban administration, tensions have surfaced along the border, leading to clashes with their border police and disputes over water rights.
