Iran’s export to Afghanistan reaches $44 million in four months

KABUL (Khaama Press): According to Mehdi Davandeh, the governor of Taybad, Iran exported 150,126 tonnes of goods worth $44.5 million to Afghanistan over the Dowqarun border during the first four months of the current solar calendar (March 21–July 22).

Iran’s export to Afghanistan stood at 150,126 tons worth $44.5 million through the Dowqarun border during the first four months of the current solar year, registering an 8% and 7% year-on-year rise in weight and value, respectively, Davandeh said on Saturday, Mehr News Agency reported.

He said that foodstuffs, petroleum products, and various building materials are key exports from Iran to Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, 170,829 tons of goods worth $596.2 million were transported from other countries through Iran to Afghanistan.

Earlier in March, the deputy head of Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Investment said that Iran is a significant trade partner of Afghanistan.

Khanjan Allkozai emphasized the trade relations between both countries, referring to Iran as Afghanistan’s major trade partner.

He said that trade between Afghanistan and Iran is currently worth $2 billion and has the potential to grow by $10 billion annually.

According to him, the two countries can potentially increase their bilateral trade to $10 billion. He also stated that Afghanistan is keen to invest in the mining and mineral sectors, agriculture, and herbal remedies.
