Iran’s Khamenei slams so-called ‘Deal of the Century’

TEHRAN (AA): Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called U.S. President Donald Trump’s so-called peace plan to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict “foolish,” according to Iranian media on Wednesday.

“The so-called plan of the ‘Deal of the Century’ is foolish because it will definitely not have any result,” Khamenei was quoted by Iran’s official news agency, IRNA as he addressed thousands of Iranians during a program in Tehran on the 41st anniversary of the Iranian revolution.

The plan “is doomed to failure” he said. “The American plot of the ‘Deal of the Century’ will die before Trump dies.

“They have come to negotiate with the Zionists over what belongs to the Palestinians! Palestine belongs to the Palestinians. Who are you to make a decision on it?” Khamenei added.

Khamenei also urged “anyone interested in Iran and its security” to go to polling stations to vote in Iran’s general elections to be held on Feb. 21.

Last week, Trump released his long-awaited plan to end the Israeli-Palestinian dispute during a White House news conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. No Palestinian representative was in the room.

Trump said Jerusalem is “Israel’s undivided capital” and he recognized Israeli sovereignty over parts of the West Bank.

The Palestinians were offered a route to running a series of territories connected by roads and a tunnel.
