Iran’s nuclear deal under Barnea’s assault

According to Iranian media, Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has declared that the investigation by the global nuclear watchdog into the alleged safeguards issues, relating to nuclear particles found at Iranian nuclear sites, needs to end before the restoration of the 2015 nuclear deal. According to him, any fresh deal will be meaningless Intel previous issues are not addressed.

The indirect dialogue between the United States and Iran paused after parties reached a consensus over the technical details of the agreement for the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) commonly known as Nuclear Deal. The parties are stuck on some political issues including the designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Crops (IRGC) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the US administration, and the ongoing inquiry of alleged traces of nuclear particles found at several Iranian nuclear sites which indicates that Iran had carried out some suspicious activities there while the IAEA chief Rafael Grossi has been continuously urging Iran for full cooperation to ascertain the facts about those particles to close the investigation. The Iranian side also demands guarantees from the United States that it will not unilaterally abandon the accord in reputation of its course at any stage in the future.

Presently, there is a deadlock between the parties on these thorny issues, however back channel diplomacy is at work, and European Union Foreign Policy Chief Joseph Barrel and the EU Nuclear coordinator Enrique Mora are continuously working to resolve the differences between the parties. The IAEA’s authorities are too much worried about the current state of affairs because despite the issue of nuclear particles they perceive that Iran’s nuclear program is galloping ahead and the IAEA has very limited visibility of what is happening there. The IAEA Chief Raphael Groosi wants an early restoration of Iran nuclear deal so his agency gets full access to the Iranian nuclear sites and control the damage that had already occurred to the cause of the JCPOA over the past years after Washington unilaterally pull out of the deal.

Meanwhile, the anti-Iran deal activities are in full swing to sabotage the prospects for the revival of the JCPOA and for that purpose Israeli government and Jewish lobby in the United States are actively working to bloc the efforts of Biden administration and its partnering nations. According to reports, Mossad Chief David Barnea is heading to Washington DC in the coming days to brief US Congress on the negative conscequences of the Iran Nuclear deal. Israeli government has further intensified it’s pressure on western nations while saying that Israel is not a party to the agreement and therefore owes no obligation to honour the treaty hence Israel will use all available options including use of force to sabotage Iran’s nuclear program in the future. Apparently, Bernea’s visit to the US is an indirect attempt to sabotage the scopes for revival of the nuclear deal by using US Congress which is deeply influenced by American Jewish Committee, the representative political arm of Jewish community in the US.

In fact, the United States itself cut its hands when Trump administration unilaterally trashed the Nuclear Deal, now numerous pressure groups, and security concerns had been emerged over the past years, which not only complicated this issue but also reduced its effectiveness. Presently, the deal makers and breakers are struggling hard to grasp their agendas, however the time would decide the effectiveness of their tact.
