Iraq tells COP28 it rejects any fossil fuel phase-out

BAGHDAD (AFP): Iraq told the UN’s climate talks on Sunday it was against any mention of a phase-out of fossil fuels in a final deal at COP28 in Dubai.

An Iraqi representative said at a COP28 meeting that “global sectorial targets” including “phase-down, phase-out of fossil fuel and phase-out of fossil fuel subsidies, are contrary to the principles of Paris Agreement”.
