Iraqi forces retake Tal Afar city from IS

TAL AFAR: Iraqi forces claimed of taking full control of the IS stronghold Tal Afar in the northwest of Iraq and raised national flag after a week long battle.

Tal Afar is the latest victory for US-backed war against the IS fighters after the recapturing the city of Mosul in July where the IS declared its caliphate in 2014.

The campaign of recapturing the Tal Afar city was started from August 20 after it was cut off from the rest of Daesh held territory in June where 2000 militants were living and occupied the city.

Iraqi forces officials told media that most of the Ottoman time building were destroyed the IS in 2014 and in the recent fight much of the city was also damaged and destroyed.
