Irreconcilables to face stiff resistance, says Bahrami

KABUL (Pajhwok): Defense Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami on Thursday said he supported the government peace efforts and that the Afghan forces were fully capable to deal with irreconcilables.

Addressing graduation ceremony for 317 officers, including 25 women, at the Marshal Fahim University here, the minister said the Afghan forces were bravely fighting against insurgents across the country and the rebels had lost the morale and had been unable to reach their strategic goals.

Addressing the graduates, Bahrami said, “You are the real sons of this country, Afghanistan is your home, you would move to any part of Afghanistan for protection of your people, you shall sacrifice for their safety.”

Bahrami said the number of commando forces had been doubled and the air force strength was the verge of being tripled. He said the army needed professional officers with advanced education to manage its affairs.

He said the success of the Afghan forces lied in their unity, urging them to behave nicely with the communities they served and avoid differences over ethnic lines.
