ISIS claims responsibility for attack on Afghan NDS

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The fighting sparked by coordinated attack on the training centre of National Directorate of Security (NDS), Afghan spy agency, in Kabul this morning ended with the death of all the attackers, interior ministry said late Monday.

Several gunmen attacked the NDS training facility in Afshar area near Qambar Square, limit of 5th police station, at around 10:00 a.m. local time.

The gunmen conducted explosion before occupying a nearby under construction building and engaged in fighting with the security forces.

“The attack ended with the killing of all the attackers, believed to be three and wearing police uniform, today’s afternoon,” Nusrat Rahimi, deputy spokesman of interior ministry.

He said there was no information on security forces’ casualties, if any.

Two policemen were wounded in the attack, Kabul police confirmed.

“The attackers had a car (white Corolla) full of explosives.

The car was exploded by the special forces,” said Mohammad Sadiq Muradi, deputy head of security affairs at the Kabul Police Headquarters.

Though there was no claim of responsibility by Taliban, the Islamic State asserted responsibility in a statement on its Amaq news agency.

It claimed two of their fighters took part in the attack, killing and wounding a ‘large number’ of Afghan troops.
