Islamic Emirate confirms Ikramuddin Kamil as proposed consul in Mumbai

KABUL (TOLONews): The Islamic Emirate’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed its nomination of Ikramuddin Kamil as the acting consul for Afghanistan in Mumbai, India.

This development follows reports from Indian media suggesting that India is considering accepting a representative of the Islamic Emirate at its consulate in Mumbai.

Aziz Maarij, a former Afghan diplomat, commented on relations with India, saying: “Maintaining relations with India, especially when Afghanistan faces global isolation and Afghan citizens and traders need secure economic ties, could solve many of Afghanistan’s challenges.”

Meanwhile, the Afghan Embassy in Australia issued a statement affirming its commitment to serving Afghan citizens in Canberra. The statement reads: “The Embassy reaffirms its unwavering commitment to serving Afghan nationals and safeguarding their interests. Our consular services will continue with full stability and strength, ensuring that the needs of our compatriots are met with dedication and resilience.”

Political analyst Saleem Paigir said: “All migrants in foreign countries need consular services; therefore, any cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and embassies benefits the Afghan people.”

Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Islamic Emirate has sought to take over Afghan diplomatic missions abroad. Officials of the Islamic Emirate have previously stated that nearly 40 Afghan diplomatic missions in other countries are currently operating under the administration of the Islamic Emirate.
