ISPR: Lt-Gen Nadeem Ahmad Anjum appointed as new DG ISI

RAWALPINDI: In a major reshuffle in Army’s top brass, Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmad Anjum has been appointed as the new director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), on Wednesday.

Outgoing ISI Director General Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has now been appointed as Corps Commander Peshawar.

The announcement came on Wednesday after a meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the PM House in Islamabad where the two discussed a raft of issues including the appointment of the new ISI director general.

Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum previously had served as Karachi Corps Commander and Frontier Constabulary Inspector General (IG FC) and Commandant and Command & Staff College Quetta and Brigade Commander Hangu Kurram Agency.

He belonged to the Punjab Regiment.

New ISI boss attended Royal College of Defence Studies UK and Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies Honolulu.

Faiz Hameed calls on PM

Meanwhile, the outgoing ISI DG and newly appointed Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, also paid a farewell visit to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In the valedictory meeting, Prime Minister Khan eulogized Lt Gen Hameed’s services as ISI chief and expressed good wishes on his new appointment as Corps Commander, Peshawar.

Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed had previously served as the head of the internal security wing at the ISI, where he stayed for around two-and-a-half years.

Lt-Gen Hameed is from the Baloch Regiment. He has also commanded a division in Pano Aqil. He was also among those who brokered the Faizabad agreement in 2017 between protesters from various religious groups and the then government, signing the agreement in the capacity of ‘guarantor’.

Other appointments

According to the ISPR, Lt-Gen Muhammad Saeed has been appointed as Commander, Karachi Corps.

Lt-Gen Nausman Mahmood has been appointed as President of National Defence University.

Lt-Gen Asim Malik has been appointed as Pakistan Army’s Adjutant General. His appointment came after he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.

Lt-Gen Muhammad Amir has been appointed as Commander Gujranwala Corps.

Lt-Gen Asim Munir has been appointed as Quarter Master General.
