Israeli police grill PM over corruption

Abdel Raouf Arnaout

JERUSALEM: Israeli police on Monday questioned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over corruption allegations, according to Israel Radio.

Investigators grilled Netanyahu for four hours at his home in West Jerusalem over suspicions that he awarded favors to Israel’s telecom company Bezeq Telecom Israel in return for favorable coverage on the company’s news site.

Netanyahu’s wife and son were also questioned in the same case.

This is the second time the prime minister was questioned by police over the case.

Last month, Israeli police recommended Netanyahu be indicted on corruption charges, saying there was now sufficient evidence to formally charge him in two other graft cases.

The cases appear to be gaining steam with a close Netanyahu confidant agreeing to cooperate with the inquiry and testify in the corruption cases, according to Israeli media.
