LAHORE: Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan on Wednesday (September 13) has pledged support to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for NA-120 by-polls that are scheduled for September 17.
Maryam Nawaz convened a meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan chief Ijaz Hashmi in Garden Town today after which the two leaders addressed a joint press conference.
During the media talk, Hashmi announced to support Kulsoom Nawaz in the election that is to be held after Nawaz Sharif was ousted as the premier of Pakistan in July.
He said that government’s efforts for progress of the country are being hindered by the opposition and that it would be clear after the election that who the people want as their leader.
However, he criticised the election commission for barring lawmakers from taking part in the electioneering.
Hashmi further said that there are limits to punishments for heinous crimes but how come there is no defined limit of ineligibility. He held the parliament among other stakeholders responsible for the issue.
On the occasion, Maryam Nawaz thanked the party for pledging its support. She claimed that she was not using government’s resources for electioneering in NA-120 and allegations leveled by the opposition were baseless.
