JI to continue movement for FATA reforms: Baloch

F.P. Report

LAHORE: A high level meeting of the Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan held at Mansoora on Thursday, resolved to continue its movement for FATA reforms till the implementation of the Sartaj Aziz Committee report.

The meeting chaired by JI acting Ameer, Liaqat Baloch, also decided to hold a consultative meeting at national level soon for the implementation of FATA reforms.

The religious and political leadership from FATA and Khyber P. would be invited at the meeting and a common line of action and a road map in this regard would be worked out.

The meeting also decided to begin a country wide move to draw the attention of the world community towards the Kashmir issue and to convene a All Parties Kashmir Conference at Mansoora. It also decided to observe the Kashmir solidarity day on February five, with full enthusiasm.

Liaqat Baloch, while addressing the meeting, said that the government had failed to  table the FATA reforms bill for the implementation of Sartaj Aziz Committee report in the assembly despite the demand from the opposition parties and the MNAs and senators from FATA  which was the worst breach of its commitment.

He said the government was deliberately delaying an issue that had been settled and added that the entire opposition and the FATA leadership were on one page on FATA reforms.

Chief of the JI, Punjab, Mian Maqsood Ahmed, told the meeting that the Punjab government was not honouring its commitment with the sugar cane growers due to which the growers were agitating.

He said the government had fixed procurement price of sugarcane at Rs. 180 per maund but the sugar mills were not paying more than Rs.140 per mound. The meeting resolved to help the Kisan Board Pakistan in settling this issue.
