JI discuss recent upheavals in leadership council meeting

KABUL: The meeting of the leadership council of Jamiat-e-Islami (JI) was organized in Kabul to discuss the recent upheavals on political and security level. According to a statement by Jamiat-e-Islami, the meeting was chaired by Salahuddin Rabbani and was attended by the senior leaders of the party.

The statement further added that the recent security and political upheavals including the recent deadly a attacks in Kabul and other parts of the country were discussed during the meeting. The leaders of Jamiat-e-Islami also held talks on upcoming parliamentary elections and the ongoing talks between Jamiat-e-Islami and the government regarding the issue of Balkh political leadership, the statement said.

It also added that the leaders of the party insisted that the parliamentary elections should be organized on time and all political parties should be given the fair share and role in the elections. The party did not disclose further information regarding any development in the ongoing talks over the Balkh political leadership.

The issue between Jamiat-e-Islami chief executive Ata Mohammad Noor and the government over the Balkh political leadership continue as more than a month has passed since the two sides entered into a deadlock over the issue.

Noor had earlier said that he will continue to his work as the Balkh governor until he does not receive a positive outcome from the meeting and the final decision of Jamiat-e-Islami regarding the issue.
