Jirga threatens UoP to open all gates in one week

PESHAWAR: Members of Khalil Qaumi Jirga gave a week ultimatum to administration of University of Peshawar to open all gates of the varsity for the employees and students of Tehkal area, otherwise the residents have right to forcefully open the gates.

They said they have allotted valuable land to UoP. In this regard, a meeting was held in the residence of Arbab Hizar Hayat of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz which was chaired by Jammiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) leader Maulana Amannullah Haqani. The participants among them include Jamaati-e-Islami Kashif Azam, Awami National Party leader Arbab Tahir Khalil, Arbab Zarak of PPP, former MPA Attifur Rahman and others respectable of the area.

Arbab Hizar Hayat who spoke on the occasion saying that students and employees of Tehkal area are traversing through long way of varsity road to reach the last corner of University of Peshawar but unfortunately the closest gate is few yards away from Tehkal area has been shut down since long owing to security reasons.

He said that the people of this area have allotted their valuable land to Peshawar University but in return they were neither provided any job quota nor any facilities to the students of this area. He said that Khalil Tribe will no more tolerate these atrocities of the university administration and would not allow them to close all gates of it for the residents Tehkal area.

Though, the university gates were established by their grandfather Arbab Jehangir when he was chief minister of this province but unfortunately the varsity administration little knows about the sacrifices of these people for their love with education, he opined. He said that the residents of Tehkal area are facing multiple problems due to the closure of nearest gates and that they are coming through long rout costing them Rs 30 per trip in local buses and transport.

He warned that they would lock down the university if all these gates were not opened within one week time for the local students and visitors of Tehkal area.
