Jordanian king calls PM Khan, lauds his handling of Indo-Pak border crisis

ISLAMABAD: King Abdullah II of Jordan telephoned Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday and lauded his statesman-like approach towards handling the difficult situation between Pakistan and India, a statement from the PM’s office said.

The Jordanian king conveyed his concern over the escalating situation between the two countries, resulting from Indian incursions into Pakistani territory. He also offered Jordan’s mediation to help de-escalate the crisis.

PM Khan briefed King Abdullah about his initiatives to maintain peace between Pakistan and India for the sake of the people of the two countries and the region, the statement said. He reiterated that the core issue between the two countries remains the issue of Kashmir that needs to be resolved as per the UN resolutions.

The Pakistan premier stated that his government agenda was to promote peace and prosperity for the people of Pakistan through poverty alleviation and social welfare programs, however, the war hysteria unleashed in India was threatening peace of the region.

Khan thanked King Abdullah for his offer of mediation and invited him to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience, the statement added.
