Journalists donate blood to thalassemia patients

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: Due to constant lockdown in the province, thalassemia-stricken patients are facing worst health conditions because of shortage of blood transfusion to them.

There are different sort of thalassemia related patients as some of patients are needed blood transfusion on weekly basis while some on monthly basis, for which, more and more blood bags require but owing to prolonged lockdown, nobody comes for donation of blood.

Dr Siyal Noor of Hamza Foundation Welfare Hospital and Blood Transfusion Services (HFWHBT) informed media persons at Peshawar Press Club during establishing a blood donation camp.

About 40 journalists including reporters, photographers and cameramen donated their blood to the foundation to save lives of the thalassemia patients. He said that there were 1222 thalassemia related patients with the foundation while most of them belong to poor family, who could not afford injections, which are too expensive to buy.

He said that all educational institutions were closed and most students of colleges and universities to provide blood to the thalassemia patients and due to it, only three to five bags are collected, which is not enough.

The doctor appealed the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa particularly of Peshawar to donate their blood to the thalassemia patients because their lives depend on blood on weekly and monthly basis. Due to shortage of blood donation, the patients on emergency basis are preferred.

It is worth mentioning here that there over 4,000 thalassemia patients in Fameed Foundation while 2,600 with Frontier Foundation are registered. Christians also donated blood to thalassemia patients yesterday.
