Justice Dost: Judges, generals, all must be held accountable

ISLAMABAD: Justice Dost Muhammad Khan has urged the need of accountability of all including Judges and Generals.

He made these remarks during the hearing of case NAB appeals in SC regarding acquittal of accused.

A two member bench led by Justice Dost Muhammad Khan conducted hearing of the case. Justice Dost Muhammad Khan was of the view that he was personally in favor of trial of judges and generals. He opined that this trials must be conducted under the accountability law likewise common peoples’ trials are held.

Justice Qazi Faaiz Esa inquired from the special prosecutor of NAB that made of the accountability bill?

Upon this, NAB lawyer responded that still it was in the shape of bill while legislation could not be done so far.

He said Chairman Senate and Senators were also resented over abolishing names of Judges and Generals from new Accountability bill. Why the prosecutor general NAB has not been appointed yet? he asked.

Who issues directives regarding appointment of Prosecutor General NAB?, he further posed a question.

Justice Faaiz Esa directed Prosecutor NAB to file petition regarding non-appointment of Prosecutor General NAB. Upon this, NAB Prosecutor said the decision would be made in the meeting regarding approaching the court.

Justice Dost Muhammad Khan said DG NAB was holding the portfolio since years and instructed to transfer him.

He said DG NAB has established his monopoly. He informed Indian population was 1.20 billion while there was no Supreme Court bench in any state. He said unnecessary cases are not registered in India. He said unnecessary cases are registered here.

Justice Dost Muhammad Khan asked the NAB to refrain doing so as people may ask the legislation institutions to abolish NAB.

It is pertinent to mention that NAB has filed appeal in the apex court regarding acquittal of accused involved in arms purchase and alleged corruption while high court’s verdict regarding acquittal of three accused including Dr. Muhammad, Engineer Kashif and Saadiq Kamal was challenged but the Supreme Court rejecting NAB’s appeal upheld the High Court’s verdict.
