Kabul mayor to be referred to AGO over corruption
KABUL: The Wolesi Jirga investigative commission has decided to refer acting head of the Kabul Municipality to the Attorney General Office (AGO) over public complaints against him and continued absence from the commission meetings.
Addressing reporters here, Wolesi Jirga Investigative Commission Head Abdul Hafeez Mansour said the residents of Dasht-i-Barchi locality situated in the limits of 13th Police District claimed that Mayor Abdullah Habibzai committed corruption and sold the master plan for the area against money.
The residents of the area claimed that the road which is going to be constructed there was against the master plan and bribe had been received in the violation of master plan. They claimed to go to the court against the violation of master plan, he said.
By the violation of master plan over 210 homes would be destroyed and the municipality against the law of land acquisition may not compensate the house owners, he said while quoting the residents who complained.
He said the Wolesi Jirga investigative commission often summoned the Kabul mayor in connection to public complaints but he never bothered himself to appear in front of the commission and respond to the public complaints.
The Kabul Municipality could not be reached for comments in this regard but Habibzai on the sidelines of a public meeting told reports the Wolesi Jirga decision unfair and added the lawmaker when failed to achieve their targets they hitch conspiracy against others.
