Kabul Municipality begins running buses

KABUL (Tolo News): The Kabul Municipality says in order to regulate urban transport, it has begun the process of activating an urban bus system in Kabul city. The municipality said that in the first phase, 11 urban buses will begin operating in two directions of the city, and that urban buses would soon begin operating in all parts of the capital.
The municipality’s goal with this ordinance is to provide transportation to Kabul residents. “We are planning to start operating urban buses in all areas of Kabul according to feasibility,” said Sayed Esmatullah Asem, deputy head of Finance and Administration of Kabul Municipality.
“With the cooperation of the Kabul municipality and traffic department, the buses have been reactivated and have been operating every day from Cinema Pamir to the airport,” said Khair Mohammad, head of Kabul Traffic Department.
Meanwhile, some bus drivers have voiced optimism about the city’s government bus operations and have urged residents to work with the government in this regard. “The Kabul municipality has created transportation for the convenience of the people. Most people are waiting for cars on the streets,” said Qasim, a driver.
“People should cooperate with us and we will work with them, so that we can build our country,” said Basir Ahmad, another driver. However, some Kabul residents complain about the activity at bus stops, claiming that bus depots have become a haven for addicts.
“This issue has not yet been resolved with the contract company and the municipality has not yet taken control of these stations,” said Waseullah Zahed, director of publications for Kabul Municipality. Throughout recent years, residents of Kabul have complained about a lack of city buses as well as transportation issues generally in the city.
