Karachi Police team flies to Islamabad to arrest SSP Rao

KARACHI: Inspector Gen-eral of Police, Sindh, Allah Dino Khowaja, on Wedne-sday directed police team to conduct raids to arrest abs-conding Rao Anwar and other members of his team, after which a team was sent to Islamabad to arrest the team leader in fake encounters.

A high level meeting was held here at Central Police Office which was attended by members of the inquiry committee and Karachi police chief besides other senior officials.

Dr Sanaullah Abbasi, head of the inquiry committee and additional IG Counter Terrorism Department info-rmed the meeting that requir-ements for arresting Rao Anwar and his team members has been completed.

IG Sindh expressed his satisfaction over the committee performance and said that every effort will be made to arrest the accused police officials.

Anwar is wanted in the inquiry into the extrajudicial murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old native of Waziristan who was among four suspected terrorists killed in an ‘exchange of fire’ with a police team led by Anwar on January 13 in Shah Latif Town, Karachi.

Sindh Chief Minister Mu-rad Ali Shah said on Wedn-esday that Anwar was not gi-ven any NOC by the provincial government.  “If someone commits a crime, arresting them is the police’s job,” he said while addressing the media. He added that police will take action against Anw-ar as per their own method.

Meanwhile, inquiry committee member DIG East Sultan Khawaja said raids are being conducted in various areas to nab Anwar and others members of the police raid team after the registration of a case against them and their continued absence from the inquiry.

Meanwhile family of the 26-year-old Nazar Jaan also arrived in Karachi from Waziristan for employment but fallen prey to Anwar’s fake encounter. His funeral prayer will be offered in jirga after arrival of his brother and uncle.A day earlier, SSP Rao Anwar and other members of his ‘killer team’’ were booked under kidnapping, murder and terrorism charges.

According to FIR, which has been lodged by Muhammad Khan, father of Naqeebullah Mehsud, in Sachal police station under 365/302/109/344/34 charges of the Pakistan Penal Code and Anti Terrorism Act (ATA), Rao Anwar and his team members were responsible for the murder.
