ISLAMABAD: The former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Shahid Khaqan Abbbasi on Wednesday strongly criticized the incumbent government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for not taking the opposition parties into confidence while making policies to combat the fatal coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The PML-N heavyweight, while addressing the floor of the House, said that the federal government remembered parliament after three months. The prime minister gave 12 speeches, could he not have consulted political leaders?” he inquired.

Shahid Khaqqan Abbasi while commenting on the government’s coronavirus triggered lockdown policies said that initially Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that the lockdown would not be imposed. “Later, it was said that the lockdown was being eased, after which the government announced that it will now impose a smart lockdown,” he said.

Khaqqan Abbasi while talking about the health protocols being implemented by the government, he said that in such situations, two policies were developed: a testing protocol and treatment protocol.

“What is the testing protocol here? If I go to a hospital, I can get tested. Nowhere in the world is this allowed.

“We have a 19 per cent infection rate,” he told the National Assembly. The PML-N senior leader further noted that four federal ministers addressed the House on coronavirus, in government only one person is the spokesperson but  here every minister is giving statements on covid-19 and nation is confused who is the actual spokesperson of the government” he added.
