Kohat win overall trophy of U-23 Female Games

KOHAT: Kohat District clinched the overall trophy after securing 10 gold medals and two silver medals in the 13 different events part of the KP Kohat Region Under-23 Inter-District Female Games which concluded here at Kohat Sports Complex on Saturday.

Kohat won gold medals in Tug-of-war, judo, netball, table tennis, handball, cricket, squash, basketball, badminton, and athletics while taking silver medals in volleyball, and hockey. District Hangu grabbed two gold medals and seven bronze medals. Hangu won gold medal in volleyball and hockey while claimed silver medals in tug-of-war, judo, netball, cricket, basketball, and baseball. District Karak got third position with one gold and four silver medals. Karak upset both Kohat and Hangu in the baseball final besides taking silver medal in athletics, badminton, handball, table tennis.

In the table tennis final Kohat players Lawayza, Bahisth, Mehreen recorded victory against Karak team comprising Aysha, Gullalai, and Sadaf in the final. All the singles decided in straight sets. In the baseball final Karak defeated Hangu by 7-6 in thrilling match. Hangu scored six runs for the loss of as many players but Karak chased the target by scoring 7 runs with loss of two players. In the hockey final Hangu defeated Kohat by 4-0 in a one-sided affair. Hangu dominated the proceedings and did not give much time to Kohat to settle down. Humaira, Sheema, Somya and Bushra scored one goal each on the field attempt.

Earlier, Hangu also defeated Karak by 2-0 when Sumiya and Sheema scored one goal each by guiding team to the grand final. In Squash Hangu defeated Karak by 3-0, Hure Jawad, Fatima Bibi, Ayman Khan recorded victory against Dil Awais, Momina Iqbal and Hooria Bukhari.

In the Netball final Hangu beat Karak by 6-3 and in the final Kohat, the last time winner, defeated Hangu by 7-4. Fatima, Sahabat, Idwa and Anbum scored two goals each while Aneeta Nasir scored one goal. For Hangu Afsheen Naz, Irum, Javeria scored one goal each.

In the Judo, Kohat won the first position when Laiba of Kohat won gold medal by defeating Khansa of Hangu in the final of the -36kg weight, Marwa of Kohat won gold medal while Feroza of Hangu got silver medal in -40kg, in -44kg Salma won gold medal after defeating Hina of Hangu, in -48kg weight Nadia of Kohat won gold medal against Shamsa of Hangu. In -52kg weight Ishrat of Kohat beat Aysha of Hangu by taking gold medal, in the -57kg weight Sehrish of Koaht won gold medal, Sairial of Hango won silver medal. In -63kg Jajiha of Kohat won gold medal against Nafisa of Hangu. National player Nadia in the opening weight category defeated Aysha of Hangu in the final. Kohat took first position, followed by Hangu.

At the end, Director Female Games KP Miss Rashida Ghaznavi gave away Rs. 20,000, certificates and trophy to the winners and Rs. 15000 to Hangu along with certificates and trophy.
