Korea summit: Kim vows to work together for a new beginning

Monitoring Desk

SEOUL: North Korean Leader, Kim Jog Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in starts a new history as leaders of the two Korean states begins the summit on Friday.

It is the first summit between the two countries in over a decade of time. Both the leaders were smiling and holding hands and were walking and joking together created a big contrast to the last years tension between the two countries when the North Korea tested missiles and its largest ever nuclear test which create unrest in the region and also in the international community and fears of a fresh conflict on the Korean peninsula.

The basic aim of the meeting was to end the decades long conflict between the two Korean countries and the meeting also comes weeks before Kim is due to meet US President Donald Trump.

Before the meeting, Kim said that they are starting a new history and paving way for the peace and prosperity and initiating new Koreans relations.

Both the leaders are expected to discuss denuclearization and exchanges between the Koreas and also will plant a memorial tree at the border truce village of Panmunjom.

Two earlier summits between the leaders of North and South Korea, in Pyongyang in 2000 and 2007, failed to halt the North’s weapons programs or improve relations in a lasting way.

Moon greeted Kim at the military demarcation line, making Kim the first North Korean leader to set foot in the South since the 1950-53 Korean War.
