KP ESED improves textbooks

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: In order to introduce a uniform system of education, The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary & Secondary Education Department (ESED) is revising textbooks. “So far textbooks up to class five have been revised. New books are easier to understand because of the newly introduced additional learning material and are structured in manner, which will help students in concepts instead of rote learning. This year Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary & Secondary Education Department conducted uniform and universal examination for class five in all public and private schools. The purpose of these examinations was to improve quality of education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since these assessments provided information about shortcomings which is helping planners to address service delivery in effective manners” said Mr. M. Muttahir Principal GHSS Maneri Swabi, former Member Editorial and Production, KP Textbook Board, said while answering a question on a radio program.

These new books will have guidelines for teachers to deliver better teaching methods in the classrooms. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the first province to introduce its own standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines and printing policy tools.

It’s a four way process, starting from the curriculum development, textbooks, content development and better learning. Core books for grade 1-5 have already been revised (English, Mathematics and science). Similarly, the core books for grade 6-8 will be revised by March 2018 and will be used by the students in the academic session 2018-2019.

Grade nine textbooks are being revised and will be completed by June 2018.

The Elementary & Secondary Education Department (E&SED) is currently running a public awareness campaign to educate the general public on various reforms initiatives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department. These programmes are aired on every Wednesday on all leading FM channels of KP. While live calls are also taken during the program.
