KP showed outstanding performance in National Games, Syed Aqil Shah

PESHAWAR: President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association Syed Aqil Shah has said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa showed outstanding performance in the history of National Games that held recently in Baluchistan.

Talking to Media persons he said athletes had made us all proud by showing performance beyond expectations, middle winners would be awarded with cash prize and a function will be held in their honor at chief minister house. Syed Aqil Shah said that “Had fund been provided on time to Olympic Association, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would have been on the top among the provinces.

He said organizing games was not the responsibility of the Directorate of Sports, Olympic association has to organize the games.

“Football Federation was not present at the 34th National Games, so the football event should had been played” he said and congratulated the two girl players of Sindh for winning the gold medal in swimming and said that these girls played an important role in taking their province one step top of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Describing the circumstances, he told that despite les expectation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won 49 medals in which most were individual medals.

We had a squad of 437 and defeated players from Baluchistan and Punjab, KP secured 7th position position because of swimming, otherwise it would have been at the sixth position. He further said that inter-provincial games will be played in Peshawar, for which preparations were under way, Chief Minister had assured cooperation in this regard.

he said it is also very important to equip Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium with international facilities, inquiry should be conducted in laying a sub-standard Astro turf. He said that inquiry committee has been formed for fact finding of low performance of different associations in national games, committee consisting of Zulfiqar Butt, Haji Amjad, Ilyas Afridi and Sara Khan. Many players were issued accreditation cards without permission of KP Olympic.

He said that training camp should have been started six months before the Games, Pakistan Olympic Association should change the tabulation method. He said that had there been inter district games, then KP performance would have been better, departments first should take NOC from the province then player should be offered employment.

He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association has the right to compete in sports and it should get shooting range, velodrome for cycling, two swimming pools, hot water facility and more sports gymnasiums should be constructed in Peshawar.
