KP witnesses decline in terror acts

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province witnessed a sharp decline in the terrorist incidents and other crimes in the current year compared to the previous 10 years, KP Police annual report revealed.

According to official data, during the current year, 126 terrorist incidents took place compared to 258 in 2016. The report said that the incidents of terrorism decreased 51% in current year. Three major terrorism incidents including targeting Additional Inspector General Ashraf Noor, Major Jamal and Agriculture Training Institute attack, took place in 2017 in KP.

The report said that Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested 428 wanted terrorists, foiled 95 terrorist acts, released 15 people from kidnappers and arrested 1346 suspects due to an effective strategy of KP Police against the miscreants in 2017. CTD also recovered huge caches of explosive material during operations. 27% decline reported in extortions acts.

Under the National Action Plan, 12248 search operations was carried out by police in KP and arrested 76244 suspects and recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition. The report claimed that apart of terrorism incidents, street crimes has also been decreased, adding that 10% decline has reported in kidnapping incidents, 17 % decrease in theft, 34% in dacoity, 26% in car lifting and 36% decrease reported in car snatchings incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
