KP Women Squash Championship Begins

PESHAWAR : Komal Khan, Laiba Ahmad, Nimra Aqeel, Kainat Khan, Sana, Maira, Manahil and Kashmala off to a flying start after recording victories against their respective rivals on the opening day of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Squash Championship which got under way here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Wednesday.

Former World Champion and Vice President Pakistan Squash Federation Qamar Zaman was the chief guest on this occasion. Member District Peshawar Assembly Haji Sher Ali Khan, Nazim Nawa Khali Sajjad Khan Khalil, female coach Riaz Khan and large number of spectators were also present.

In the first match Laiba Ahmad recorded one-sided victory against Zahra in the three sets battle, the score was 11-5, 11-3 and 11-5.

Laiba did not look behind and marching into victory in a one-sided affair. In the second match Nimra defeated Eman by 3-0, the score was 11-7, 11-9 and 11-8. Maira recorded victory against Zohra Khan in three sets battle, the score was 11-7, 11-9 and 11-9, Komal beat Kalsoom by 3-0, the score was 12-10, 11-9 and 11-8. In the other matches Manahil beat Zareen Khan by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 11-7 and 12-10 while Kashmala beat Areesha by 3-0, the score was 12-10, 11-9 and 11-6.

In the other matches of the second round, Laiba Ahmad defeated Zohra by 3-0, the score was 11-3, 11-4 and 11-3, Nimra beat Kainat by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 12-10 and 11-8, Hira beat Kashmala by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 12-10 and 11-9, Maira beat Sana by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 11-8 and 11-6, Komal beat Kalsoom by 3-0, the score was 11-8, 11-9 and 11-6, Manahil beat Zareen by 3-0, the score was 12-10, 11-7 and 11-8 while Kashmala beat Areesha by 3-0, the score was 12-10, 12-10 and 13-11 in a tough battle enjoyed by capacity crowd. Both Kashmala and Areesha played well against each other and some good strokes were also witnessed.

Qamar Zaman on this occasion lauded the active participation in the event being played on League basis. He said every player would play more than 10 matches each. The aim and objective is to provide competitive exposure to the female players part of the Qamar Zaman Squash Academy.
