KP Youth Directorate celebrates Int’l Women Day

PESHAWAR: Directorate of Youth Affairs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa organized a movielogue for young women to celebrate International Women’s Day, 2018. The event held here in Jawan Markaz, Qayyum Stadium Peshawar.

The event aimed to commemorate the movement for women’s rights through a movie ‘’Mona Lisa Smile’’. Young women from different districts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in Movielogue. After the movie session, forum was opened for opinions and discussion on the message imbedded in ‘’Mona Lisa Smile’’.

Talking to the media Asfandyar Khattak said, “Youth Directorate intends to project social awareness issues through Movielogue. The initiative will ratify the concept of Edutainment i.e. to create awareness among youth through entertainment designed to educate as well as to amuse.”

“Movielogue in future, will come up with social subjects for awareness-raising and promoting the acknowledgment of issues in youth.” Mr. Khattak added.

The participants urged the womenfolk and community to focus women rights and acknowledge various roles of women at every tier of the society. During the discussion session, participants stressed Gender Integration and women Inclusion in social, Economic and political development of the region.

Dr. Fouzia Afridi one of the participant said, “Movielogue is the unique initiative to highlight significance of the day and to provide young women space to celebrate and encouraged them to speak their minds.”

Youth Directorate has been playing spirited role to engage youth in healthy activities. Alongside, the directorate has been aiming to empower youth led organizations by actively involving them in events management.

The Movielogue session has been facilitated by youth led organization The Enlightenment Lab.

Talking to the media Tahira Kaleem, Lead of The Enlightenment Lab said, “Movielogue is a different idea to celebrate International Women’s Day with young girls. We should come up with contemporary approach to enhance the critical thinking in youth to address various issues, Mona Lisa Smile was so in line with Women Day theme, we had a though provoking discussion session today”.
