Kunar residents want rehabilitation of some monuments completed

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Some residents in eastern Kunar province have asked the government to complete the rehabilitation projects of historic monuments in the province.
They said rehabilitation work on a mosque and a shrine was started during the past regime which is now left incomplete.
Mohammad Shoiab Gharawal, the resident of Adamkhelo locality in Marwawa district, said: “The rehabilitation work on Mawlana Sahib Shrine in Watapur district and Hazrat Ghofran Baba historic mosque started during the past regime and some work was done, but due to recent rainfall it was damaged and now facing serious thread of eradication.”
He asked the government to resume the rehabilitation of these projects soon and complete them.
Rasoul Mohammad Khaksar, the resident of Nishgam district in Watapur district, said: “The Mawlana Sahib Shrine in our area is over 100 years old and its rehabilitation work was started during the past regime which is now half completed.” He said the provincial Information and Cultural Affairs Department should pay attention to the rehabilitation of historic monuments.
Mawlavi Monibullah Afghan, head of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, said the completion of some historic sites rehabilitation work had been discussed with the centre but still work could not be resumed.
He said the rehabilitation work on Hazrat Ghufran Baba Mosque is 80 percent completed. Its rehabilitation work was started during the past regime at the cost of nine million afs.
He said: “The Mawlana Sahib Shrine which is over 300 years old gets 20 percent of its rehabilitation work done during the past regime, over four million afs was allocated for the scheme.” He said a large number of historic places situated in Kunar which required serious attention and rehabilitation work.
